How can I…

make photocopies?

All TEI of Epirus libraries are equipped with sufficient number of photocopying machines available for their users. All library members as well as external users may use the self-service machines provided they purchase a photocopying card. The Library does not offer free cards. Cards can be purchased at the Circulation desks of all libraries at the price of 3 euros (equals to 100 pages).

Photocopying library material is subject to the international copyright regulations. Photocopying right may be restricted in cases of rare or damaged material.

How can I

borrow material from a Branch library or another academic library?

Inter-branch loan service enables library members to borrow material held by another TEI of Epirus Library (Main Library of Arta or Branch libraries of Preveza, Ioannina and Igoumenitsa). If no library has the item in request, users may submit an Interlibrary loan request from another Greek academic library. The TEI of Epirus Library participates in the National Network of Scientific and Technological Libraries and the Hellenic Interlibrary Loan Network (HIlL-net).

How can I

submit an inter-branch loan request

Procedure

The Inter-branch loan service is available to all members of the TEI of Epirus Library provided they are active and have no overdue material. Library member completes an Inter-branch loan request form at the library site they belong.    

The service is not chargeable.

Items can be picked up by the requester at the Circulation Desk of the Library they belong to and returned it at the same point.

The lending period is one (1) week. A renew of one week more is possible on request to the lending library.

Limitations - exceptions.

Inter-branch loan service is not available for certain types of material such as reference works, journals, thesis, seminar papers, and audiovisual material. Users cannot also place a request for rare or short-loan collection material.   

How can I

submit an Interlibrary loan request

The TEI of Epirus Library participates in the National Network of Scientific and Technological Libraries and the Hellenic Interlibrary Loan Network (HIlL-net). Therefore, library members may submit interlibrary loan requests or document delivery requests for article photocopies from other Greek academic libraries.  The service is available to all library members provided that the requested material is not owned by the Main Library or any of the Branch libraries.

Interlibrary loan

Library member completes an Interlibrary loan request form at the library site they belong to.  Library processes the request and notifies the member for its course.  

The lending period is similar to that for items held by local library unless otherwise requested by the lending library.

Items can be picked up by the requester at the Circulation Desk of the Library the library member belongs to, and returned at the same point. Items should be kept in good condition. In case of repeated delay or return of damaged material, users will be required to replace it or pay compensation equal to its market price within one (1) week.

The cost of the service is chargeable to the user in total.

borrow books

All members of the academic community of the TEI of Epirus (facutly, students, researchers, and staff) may borrow books and other material. External users are not entitled to borrowing but they can use material indoor (studding or photocopying).

Once you register to the library, you may use your valid TEI of Epirus ID to check out library materials at the Circulation Desk. All books are eligible for borrowing but borrowing privileges depend on user categories and item type. The non-loan collection includes material such as journals, reference works, rare books, audiovisual material, theses and seminar papers.

Undergraduate students: Up to 3 books for 15 days

Faculty members: Up to 5 books for 20 days.

Researchers: Up to 5 books for 15 days.

Administrative personnel: Up to 3 books for 15 days.

renew material

All users may renew their borrowed items once (for 7 days) provided that no other user has asked for or placed a hold on the item. Items may be renewed in person at any library location or by telephone.

Several articles of Library Rules and Regulations describe users’ rights and responsibilities.  

Borrowers should return material on due time, at the Circulation Desk and hand them to the librarian in charge.

To maintain the library collection in good condition, users should handle library material carefully.

Users who fail to return items or renew their loans within the designated period are notified by telephone. Users who systematically fail to observe the borrowing regulations will be subjected to suspension of borrowing privileges.

In case of loss or damage of library material, users will be required to replace it or pay compensation equal to its market price within one (1) week.

In order to graduate, senior students must return any borrowed item to the Library and get the respective Certification.

Search for books, journals, and audiovisual material

How can I…

 

…find books, journals, audiovisual material, etc.

TEI of Epirus Library offers an important collection of books, journals and other types of material while offers access to databases and special collections.  All its collections serve the research and educational interests of the academic community of the TEI of Epirus.

…locate material in the Library.

You can find printed and audiovisual material by searching the online Library Catalogue (OPAC). Main Library Catalogue contains records of all four collections of Main Library of Arta and Branches of Preveza, Ioannina and Igoumenitsa.

Author and title searching

Use the drop-down menu on the left-hand side and select Author (Lastname_ firstname) or Title and then type the author’s name or title in the right-hand box.

Subject heading searching

To find subject headings or subject terms select Subject from the drop-down menu on the left-hand side and then type in your term.

All Fields searching

All Fields searching will look for your term(s) in the title, author, subject and all other fields. Use All Fields if you want to expand your search or you are not sure for the proper directory to search.

Check the results list and click on the title you are interested in for further details (full record). Check information about the item’s copies at the bottom of the record. These are: Location (Mail Library of Branch Library), Call Number (classification number), Copies (number of available copies of each library), and Status (On shelf or on loan).

…find electronic journals

You can locate articles from electronic journals by searching the vast collections offered by the Consortium of Greek Academic Libraries – HEAL- Link and other databases held by the Library.

Via the Consortium, all TEI of Epirus members have access to thousands of electronic journals searchable in many ways (subject, author, title, publisher, etc.). Access is freely provided by the TEI within its network or with authorized remote access. Users may read, print, download, and save records provided that they accept the provisions of the legislation being in effect for Copyright and related issues.

…get access to library databases

Databases (full text or bibliographic) are organized collections of data characterized by their diversity and credibility. They contain several types of resources (journal articles, conference papers, technical reports, book chapters, patents, etc.) and are related to a vast array of subjects. Some databases are subject-specific or contain a certain type of material (e.g. theses). Users search a database in many ways (key-words, author, title, and subject) or by browsing the relevant indexes.  

The TEI of Epirus Library maintains subscriptions to several databases which are accessible through the TEI network or by authorized remote access. Click here for a database catalogue.

…find material in union catalogues.

You can find books and other types of material owned by other Greek or foreign libraries by searching a union catalogue. A union catalogue is a combined library catalogue describing the collections of a number of libraries.

  • HALUC - Hellenic Academic Libraries Union Catalog is one of the most important projects of Greek libraries aiming at the creation of a common strategic plan with regard to access in electronic resources’ content. In January 2011, HALUC has reached its 6th edition, which contains 63 bibliographic databases (with more than 3,5 million records) coming from 54 HALUC member-libraries. 
  • Zephyr is a portal designed to help locating the available books, journals and other material in the catalogues of Greek Academic Libraries.
  • Argo collects several databases created by the National Documentation Centre and Greek union catalogues of special, municipal and public libraries in Greece.
  • The Library of Congress is the national library of the United States and its collection comprises the world’s most comprehensive record of human creativity and knowledge. Its collections include more than 33 million books and printed material as well as more than 114 million maps, manuscripts, photographs, films and other special collections.
  • The COPAC library catalogue gives free access to the merged online catalogues of many major University, Specialist, and National Libraries in the UK and Ireland, including the British Library.
  • Catalogue SUDOC is the union catalogue of French research and academic libraries containing more than 9 million records.

A great number of electronic books and reference material is available through HEAL-Link (The Hellenic Academic Libraries Link). Those works refer mostly to general language and art dictionaries as well as hundreds of titles of e-books of diverse subjects.
